Women's Mountain Bike - SPECIALIZED RHYME

Yesterday we showed off the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR series and today we are going to give the Specialized Rhyme FSR some love:

When no trail is too steep, and no jump is off limits, you need a bike that delivers a confidence-inspiring, purpose-built trail experience. We heard you loud and clear, and the new Rhyme delivers the right tool for the job. We designed it to not just be the most capable women's trail bike out there, but to be one of the most capable trail bikes—period. With unmistakable Trail Geometry, our own Women's Rx Trail Tune, unrivaled fit, SWAT technology, and an obsessively detailed construction, it's the bike that every trail rider has wanted but has never been given—until now.

Like yesterday there is a VIDEO to watch and this one was shot in New Zealand!  Pretty cool huh?

So if you are interested in learning more about the Specialized Rhyme and the local mountain bike scene stop on in today from 10-8.  Get out there and ride some dirt, get muddy, get wet, but most of all get a smile plastered on your face!

Mountain Bike Race Wednesday - SPECIALIZED STUMPJUMPER

Since it is Wednesday and that means Race Night at Sprague Brook (Registration Link Below!) I figured we would go with another Mountain Bike and figured that the 2015 Specialized Full Suspension Stumpjumper line would be a great place to start!

THE TRAIL LEGEND REBORN
Mountain biking has come a long way since the Stumpjumper first debuted in 1981, but one thing's stayed the same for decades: The Stumpjumper is the ultimate trail bike. And this year, it features revolutionary new technology, like our proprietary Rx Trail shock tune, never before seen, fully integrated SWAT technology, 650b, 6Fattie, and 29er options, ultra-short and nimble chainstays, and an even slacker, trail-eating geometry. Add it all up, and you have a bike that's ready for anything that the trail can throw at it
Here is a cool introductory VIDEO on the bike as well!
HANDLING
Trail bikes have to do it all, and do it all well. Equally focused on climbing prowess and descending capability, the Stumpjumper FSR is scared of nothing.
  • Geometry is built from the ground up for both 650b and 29” wheels.
  • We made the head tube even slacker, at 67/67.5° and 150/135mm travel (650b/29”).
  • Chainstays are even shorter for more nimble handling, at 420/437mm (650b/29").

EFFICIENCY
Pedaling and control are paramount to trail riding. We make sure that you get up and get down as fast as possible.
  • We further refined our fully active and independent FSR suspension for all-around trail performance, while retaining the ManFu design with full seat tube access, fully sealed cartridge bearings at every pivot, and easy to service hardware.
  • Our suspension team worked with our shock partners to develop our all-new Rx Trail Tune. Now, every rear shock volume, compression, and rebound range has been meticulously tuned specifically for the Stumpjumper FSR.
UTILITY
It’s more important than ever to be prepared for what the trail will dish out. We first introduced SWAT on the Epic, and now we've adapted the concept with the revolutionary SWAT Door.
  • On the down tube, the SWAT Door unhinges so you can store your trail essentials inside the Trail Chassis without any rattling or compromise to the integrity of the frame.
  • SWAT wraps keep tubes, pumps, and CO2 cartridges in place and rattle-free.
  • Full internal cable routing through easy-to-guide, molded carbon tubes protect your housing and eliminate any tangling.
PERFORMANCE
We're proud to say that every Stumpjumper FSR model comes with the new Command Post IRcc with up to 10 middle positions, plus full internal routing and powerful Shimano brakes. You'll also find that every model is made to be two-by compatible with the Taco Blade and our new seatstay and shock extension design. And for rolling stock, every bike comes with ultra-wide Traverse rims for a better tire profile and increased traction.

Enve Wheel Sets

Are you looking at ways of upgrading your current stock bike and are looking for the best return?  A new wheelset is always a great starting point and there are many different options out there.  At Tom's we sell many different brands and Enve is one of them.

STRONG, LIGHT, STIFF, AND AERO – THE ENVE PROCESS

Carbon fiber manufacturing is a game of tradeoffs. When looking for a new set of wheels, you need to ask these questions:
  • How can I get the strongest, yet lightest wheel?
  • Can I get a stiff and efficient wheel without sacrificing comfort?
  • If I ride these wheels every day, how much maintenance will they require?
So, at ENVE we are in the business of reducing tradeoffs. We want it all; producing a wheel that is light and strong, stiff and comfortable, fast and stable, durable and maintenance-free. We don’t believe in “race-only” wheels. We believe your fastest wheels should be ridden every day.
Making everyday race wheels without tradeoffs requires serious technology. This is what differentiates ENVE wheels from the competition:

ENVE wheels are strong. Very strong. Why? Because people like Danny MacAskill and Josh Bryceland do insane things on them. The strength of our wheels is derived from a combination of factors: great structural design, intense molding and thoughtful wheelbuilding. One of the most important factors is ENVE’s PATENTED ability to mold, rather than drill spoke holes. This ensures unbroken carbon fibers throughout the wheel. That translates to a stronger wheel per gram of weight.

Weight is the sworn enemy of speed. However, light is typically not associated with strength. In cycling, you want every ounce working toward making your frame and components strong. At ENVE, we use removeable bladders and no paint or filler. All of the weight is in intensely molded carbon fiber. This can save as much as 120g (or 1/4 pound) of unbalanced weight over a wheelset. So – when asking how much something weighs, make sure all the weight is there to also help make it functionally strong.

Simply put, ENVE rims are stiff in all the right places. Through the use of unidirectional carbon fiber, we are able to achieve the optimal balance of vertical, lateral, and torsional stiffness.
Lateral stiffness – affects how a wheel tracks and manages forces that it is subjected to when navigating corners and accelerating.
Torsional stiffness – affects how a wheel feels when accelerating and decelerating. Optimized torsional stiffness means that power from the pedals is transferred through the drivetrain, hub, spokes and ultimately the rim in the quickest most efficient manner possible.
Vertical stiffness – is the amount of deflection a wheel experiences when compressed and/or impacted. We discuss this in more depth in our Building a Faster Wheel article.

More than ever, aero is the name of the game on the road or race circuit. All of our carbon fiber road and triathlon wheels are developed in-frame (i.e., on the bike) as an integrated system. Wheels are tested on multiple frame designs in order to produce net drag reduction no matter which bike you are riding. This unique approach to testing results in a wheel system that incorporates specific shapes and depths for the front and rear wheels because the airflow interacts with the front and back of the bike in different manners.

For more information on Enve wheels stop by the shop today from 10-8 and check out our inventory!

Spring 50 Recap

It was an action packed week and weekend around Tom's Pro Bike the past 7 days.  The past week was wrapped up by the Annual Tom's Spring 50 (25 as well) that was very well attended.  The weather was perfect (and possibly a tad bit warm but I have heard stories of years past and snow and rain and cold so I am not going to complain one bit), the company was great, and the bar-b-que was awesome! - Thanks to Mike and Lori for all of their hard work on the food front!

Tom's Ice Cream Bike was on site again and people were enjoying some ice cream to help them recover from their effort during the morning's ride.

Saturday found Tom and Blogger Bill out in Niagara County for the Hospice Gran Fondo.  Another great event supported by a lot of Tom's customers and showing off their kits!

Keep an eye out on the newly revamped Tom's Pro Bike Website for all of our events and if you need a new bike to carry you around the upcoming rides stop by and check out our great inventory!  We are open from 10-8 tonight!
