How To Win A World Championship Ladies Style - S-Works Amira SL4

We never want to leave the ladies out so today we are highlighting Lizzie Armistead's World Championship in Richmond, Virginia.  I am not going to lie and tell you that I follow Women's Road Cycling and give you some facts on Lizzie.  The main fact that I do know is that both champions were on a Specialized S-Works Road bike.  The engine plays a big part in their performance, but Specialized's engineering team and their dedication to designing and then manufacturing the fastest bike possible is very impressive!  Lizzie rode the Specialized S-Works Amira SL4 to victory:

It's simple: when someone attacks on a climb, you want to respond quickly and with confident assurance, and when it's you who's breaking away, you'll want to accelerate with snappy intensity and leave everyone in your wake. The S-Works Amira is born to race to any strategy, and is at the absolute top of the women's race bike heap in terms of performance, quality, and handling. From its premium carbon frame and highest-end components to its aero and super-fast wheelset, the Amira a true competitor's dream.
  • Enjoy the unrivaled responsiveness of the Amira’s super-lightweight S-Works FACT 11r carbon frame. This is our highest quality carbon, and provides a stiff and nimble ride—great for sprinting for the finish or carving tricky descents—while delivering the lowest overall frame weight.
  • Enjoy true handling precision, even on the most technical of descents with the full-monocoque, S-Works FACT carbon fork.
  • Take your ride to the next level with Roval Rapide CLX 40s, the perfect all-around race carbon wheelset. Lightweight and fast with long-lasting ceramic bearings, the aerodynamic optimized rim shape slices through the wind without sacrificing handling and stability.
  • Experience no compromise on power and fit with Women’s Competitive Geometry. This frame geo takes into account female anatomy and differences in size and power outputs, and is engineered to deliver high-performance without sacrificing ride quality.
MSRP is $8,000.00 and to learn more about this awesome bike stop by the shop today from 10-8 and take one out for a test ride!

Levers can also be adjusted to accommodate different hand sizes.

Fall Century This Sunday

This Sunday is our first Tom's Pro Bike Fall Century.  We leave the shop at 9:00am and are heading east to Batavia and then north towards Lake Ontario and then make our way back to the shop.  Right now the weather forecast looks awesome for this ride.

This is a self-supported ride so here is a small list of some things I would have with you to ensure that you have a great time:
#1 - Bike
#2 - Shoes
#3 - Helmet
#4 - Padded Bike Shorts & Chamois Cream to keep you comfortable in the saddle
#5 - Dress in layers - it is much cooler at 9:00am than 1:00pm this time of the year so arm/knee warmers come in handy and are easily removed once the temperatures hit their daily peak.
#6 - Money or Credit Card for refueling along the way
#7 - Emergency Repair Kit and the knowledge to use all of the pieces included.  2 tubes might not be a bad thing or at least a patch kit
#8 - Bike Candy - easy to reach fuel sources for the first part of the ride
#9 - A full tummy from a healthy breakfast - it is no fun doing an early bonk due to poor nutrition choices.  This is going to be a 6+ hour day on the bike and starting out with negative calories is not a wise choice
#10 - A big old smile and willingness to enjoy whatever comes your way - hills/wind/flats - just think and enjoy the fact that you are on your bike!

We are open today from 10-8 if you need to pick up any last minute supplies for the ride or to pick our minds about what are the best choices for you.  We even have some great deals on our 2015 & older inventory if you want to break in a new bike this weekend!

2016 Specialized Tarmac Comp Di2 Ultegra - Follow Up

A couple of weeks ago we highlighted the 2016 Specialized Tarmac Comp Di2 Ultegra.  At that point it had not even hit the Specialized website.  Over the weekend we did some research against the competition to see where they come in at this level of bike and were amazed at the results.

First up is the Specialized write up of this great deal bike:

The Tarmac Comp UDi2 is a superb upgrade for any cyclist looking to take their riding to the next level. With its FACT 9r carbon frame that delivers ample responsiveness and performance, and performance across every frame size and the incredible performance value of the electronic Shimano UDi2 build kit, the Tarmac Comp UDi2 is a true step-up to any rider's arsenal.
  • The FACT 9r carbon frame has all the stiffness and performance you need in a lightweight package, making climbing and descending the best part of any ride.
  • The FACT full carbon fiber fork provides incredible front end stiffness and steering input for rapid accelerations and speedy descents.
  • The smooth-rolling bearings and classic build quality of the Fulcrum S-19 wheelset ensures mile-after-mile of worry-free performance over any terrain.

Key Points:

#1 - Specialized's website blows all the others away for ease of navigation and just overall presentation!

#2 - Specialized Tarmac MSRP is $3,300 for Ultegra Di2 and a Fact 9r Carbon Frame
#3 - Cannondale does not do a bike at this level (or that I could find easily on their site)
#4 - Trek Domane 5.9  has a MSRP of $4,899 - Yes that is $1,500 more expensive and I hardly doubt that the Domane frame has that much more engineering or ride value in it!
#5 - Giant TCR Advanced SL1 has a MSRP of $5,900 - Wow $2,500 more expensive than the Specialized.  Specialized is the company that has their own Win Tunnel to do aerodynamic studies of their bikes and their bike is $2,500 less expensive!
#6 - BMC Teammachine SLR02 has a MSRP of $4,598 - Only $1,200 more expensive than the Specialized

Yes we are a Specialized dealer but even if we were not I would have a hard time selling a bike to a customer that is at minimum $1,200 more expensive than the Tarmac Comp Di2 Ultegra.  Just think of the accessories you can score with 1,200 extra dollars in your pocket or 1,500 or even 2,500!

Stop in today from 10-8 and check this great bargain out and take one for a test ride!  Then go test ride the others and come back and let us know that their bike is justified to be that much more expensive!

Specialized S-Works Sub 6

I have this cool video I watch periodically that is a Ski Take-off called Progression is Regression (You should check it out if you are a skier and older than 35 or so - pretty humorous!)  You ask what in the world does a ski video have to do with bike shoes - well remember when all bike shoes had laces?  They are back in this years S-Works Sub 6:

The S-Works Sub6 is the most aerodynamically advanced, lightest shoe we’ve ever produced. The traditional lacing system cuts down weight, while the Warp Sleeve™ lace cover—a sleeve worn directly over the laces—is Win Tunnel Engineered to reduce drag and clean airflow over the shoe. When combined with the narrower heel cup, you can save up to 35 seconds over 40 kilometers when compared to the previous S-Works Road Shoe. With the PadLock heel, it maintains the same secure and snug heel fit as theall-new S-Works 6 shoe for superb connection and efficient power transfer, but in a boldyet minimalist package. Less is more.

AVAILABLE AUGUST 2015
  • Body Geometry sole and footbed are ergonomically designed and scientifically tested to boost power, increase efficiency, and reduce chance of injury by optimizing hip, knee, and foot alignment.
