Staying Warm While Getting Fat

Now that you have your Fat Bike it is time to make sure you stay dry, warm & comfortable on the bike.  Specialized has a nice page on their website with different clothing options for their weather situation (as an example they have COLDEST as 20-38 degrees and to me this time of the year that is comfortable ;) ) LOCATED HERE.  We do not have all of these items in stock - I am just linking this so you get an idea on how to layer properly.

I will agree with the basic premise that layering is key.  I like to make sure I have layers with zippers as well besides my base layer.  This way when you start climbing or working harder, you can unzip some layers to let the heat escape so you don't end up sweating out.

The above picture gives you some good ideas as well to staying comfortable this winter while out riding!  Stop by the shop and check out our complete line of cold weather clothing and accessories so you can stay warm and comfortable all winter long!

Here is the price sheet for the sale but anything from 2015 and older is limited to stock on hand.  We are open from 10-6 today.  Conditions should be ideal this weekend for your maiden fat bike ride around WNY!

Want a great way to stay in shape this winter, besides Fat Biking, and to monitor your power & fitness levels? Sign up for a slot of our Indoor Training Series.

Indoor Training Series is on right now. Information HERE!

WE RENT FAT BIKES NOW! Interested in trying out a Fat Bike without having to purchase one? We now rent the Specialized Fatboy at Tom's Pro Bike & all rental fees goes towards Purchase Price - EVEN DURING THE JANUARY SALE!

High Visibility Tuesday - CASTELLI CLOTHING

Visibility on the bike is key to safety and as you can see from the picture above we have quite the inventory of High Visibility Bicycle Gear from Castelli.  I can honestly say that this is the first year that I have bothered purchasing gear like this and I ride year round in all conditions.  I have a Reflective Vest that I would wear periodically, but if I was commuting it was useless since I also carried a backpack and it covered up the reflective material from the rear.

If you have a bike rider on your list or you are compiling your shopping list stop by the shop and check out our clothing and accessories.  Of course we have new bikes as well, but if one of those is not on the list we have many suggestions to make your bike rider smile on Christmas morning.

We are open from 10-8 today so come on down!

Do you have a bike lover on your Christmas List?  Check out Tom's Holiday Specials.  If you are unsure of what to but pick up a Gift Card and let them chose from our inventory or get an idea from the Great Gift Idea section based on your budget.

We have some excess 2014 and older inventory that we are trying to clear out to make way for the 2015 models that are becoming available each day.  For 2014 you receive 10% off the MSRP and also a 10% Gift Card to use in the store.  We have financing available if you quality and we also have free lay-a-way: 20% down is all that is required to secure your new ride for the 2015 season and beyond.

Our 2013 and older inventory is marked down even lower as well.  It may not be as low as it was during our Reverse Auction Sale but you can still save a lot if we have your size and model choice available.

Indoor Race Series information is out. Click on the link to register and purchase your race credits because it is going on right now!  Sure the weather was ideal for outdoor riding recently but you saw what happened last weekend.  Don't miss out on some great winter training opportunities!

What To Wear Wednesday - WINTER CLOTHING

Photo: Afternoon ride!

Yesterday we had this type of weather.

Tonight and tomorrow we are supposed to get some of this (that is a single track grooming tool pulled behind a snowmobile prepping some Wisconsin single track for Fat Bike usage!)

The question is does your Bike Rider on your Christmas Shopping List have the clothing and accessories to keep themselves warm during the upcoming winter for outdoor rides?  Stop by Tom's and check out our complete line of Winter Clothing and for those that just do not want to ride outside we have Trainers for sale as well and our Indoor Race Series taking place right now as well!

If you have been following the blog you have seen this photo of Tom in Arizona wearing his ASSOS kit.  We recently became an Authorized Retailer for ASSOS and their outstanding line of clothing.  Today they announced a special Facebook promotion where you could win signed Swiss National Cycling Team jerseys.  First hurdle is owning some ASSOS gear so stop into the shop today and take a look at our inventory.  While you are there ask Tom about how comfortable and durable their clothing is.  Nothing like an honest review right from the wearer of the clothing!

Toes Warm Thursday - SPECIALIZED DEFROSTER SHOE (ROAD or MTB)

We all know what is coming upon us very shortly - Cold and Snow!  But does that mean you have to stop riding?  There is an old saying out there: There is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothing!  The key to winter riding is keeping your extremities warm and comfortable and a great way to keep your feet warm is with the Specialized Defroster:

Don't let rain or cold stop your ride. The Defroster Trail features seam-sealed bootie construction, Thinsulate® insulation, and a neoprene collar to help keep your feet warm and dry even in the worst conditions. A grippy rubber sole provides great stability in slippery conditions.
  • Thinsulate® 400 gram insulation for warmth, with waterproof, seam-sealed internal bootie construction and reflective heat-loss barrier in the sole
  • Sealed canopy and neoprene collar keep heat in and water out
  • Nylon composite sole with rubber tread for wet weather traction: 6.0 Stiffness Index
  • Single Boa® L4 dial for a snug fit
  • High visibility reflective accents for low-light riding
  • Wide fit to accommodate winter weight socks—no need to size up
  • Durable sheet rubber heel and toe protection
  • Body Geometry outsole and footbed optimize alignment to improve performance and comfort
  • 2-bolt cleat pattern fits all major MTB pedals
  • Approximate weight: 480g (1/2 pair 42)
I just added these shoes to my wardrobe for this coming winter and got a chance to break them in last weekend on a 5 hour ride in High 30's/Low 40's weather.  My feet never once knew it was that cool out and they were very comfortable walking around in as well.

MSRP: $200.00 and we have the Mountain Bike (2-Bolt) and Road Bike (3-Bolt) Models in stock so stop by the shop today from 10-8 and check them out.  You can start with your Christmas list or get some ideas for others.

Bike Review Wednesday - SPECIALIZED S-WORKS TARMAC Di2 DISC

Specialized S Works Tarmac Di2 Disc

A little while back we had the Specialized Demo Truck at the shop and we all got to test ride some of the 2015 models.  One of them was the 2015 S-Works Tarmac Di2 Disc bike and we were all very impressed with it.  I just came across a Review on BikeRadar of it for your reading enjoyment as well.  The bike has a MSRP of $9,500 and rides like a dream.  We have them in stock at the shop as well so if you are interested in checking out an Electric Shifting, Hydraulic Road Disc Brake, and Carbon bike then stop by and check this beauty out!

Triathlon/TT Tuesday - UPCOMING RACES

We just want to thank all of you for your support and business during Tom's Annual Summer Sale.  It ended last night and if you missed out on some of the great deals keep an eye out for future sales on the blog or at our FaceBook Page.

Today we are going to highlight an upcoming busy month of Triathlons around the area.

First up is the Saturday July 5th - A Tri in the Buff.  Clothes are mandatory and so is going fast:
Welcome to A Tri in the Buff! The oldest triathlon in Buffalo held on the shores of Lake Erie in beautiful Evangola State Park. This event offers something for everyone from beginner (Try A Tri) to experienced (Intermediate Tri). Be sure to visit some of the many beach clubs in the area.

Tom's is a major sponsor of A Tri in the Buff so look for us around the venue!

A couple of weeks later you can race at the Nickel City Triathlon on July 19:
EVERYONE can come and race on the same course that some of the top North American and European multi-sport athletes did. Both Olympic & Sprint distances will be competed on a completely closed course.

Ramping up the August race schedule is the Wet & Wild Triathlon on August 2nd.

Now you have some race options to prepare for.  The question is do you the proper bike and accessories to make the race a successful one?  Stop by Tom's for more information on all things Triathlon!  We stock Quintana Roo, Cervelo and Specialized Triathlon Bikes and carry a wide variety of accessories and nutrition.  We are open from 10-8 today.

A great way to test the your new Mountain Bike out is in the southern tier this week - Ellicottville Wednesday Night race series is happening (off this week due to Holiday but resumes next Wednesday). A great week to get muddy and sweaty on the mountain bike! Keep an eye posted on Facebook for some pictures from the Raccoon Rally yesterday that 4 of us from the shop participated in (and suffered immensely!)

Check out our Events Page
