Travel By Bike Thursday - SPECIALIZED INFINITY TIRE REVIEW

Today I am going to give a review of the tire that I use on my main commuter bike - The Specialized Infinity.  I have had this tire on since April and have just under 1000 miles laid down on it so far so I felt it was a good time to let everyone know my thoughts on the tire.

First off the tire is available in 3 different levels - The Infinity, The Infinity Sport, and the Infinity Armadillo.

MSRP starts at $30.00 for the Infinity, $35.00 for the Sport, and $45.00 for the Armadillo.

Here is what Specialized has to say about the Infinity:

The Infinity is a long-wearing, incredibly durable tire that's ideally suited for commuting, trekking, and street use. The deep recessed tread provides excellent traction through water and debris, while the rounded profile ensures stable, predictable handling in corners.

  • Casing: 26 TPI
  • Bead: Wire
  • Compound: 70a
  • Flat Protection: Flak Jacket
Here is what Specialized has to say about the Infinity Sport:

The Infinity is a long-wearing, incredibly durable tire that's ideally suited for commuting, trekking, and street use. The deep recessed tread provides excellent traction through water and debris, while the rounded profile ensures stable, predictable handling in corners.

  • Casing: 60 TPI
  • Bead: Wire
  • Compound: 70a
  • Flat Protection: BlackBelt
Here is what Specialized has to say about the Infinity Armadillo:

The Infinity is a long-wearing, incredibly durable tire that's ideally suited for commuting, trekking, and street use. The deep recessed tread provides excellent traction through water and debris, while the rounded profile ensures stable, predictable handling in corners.

  • Casing: 60 TPI
  • Bead: Wire
  • Compound: 70a
  • Flat Protection: Armadillo
As you can see the Casing goes up for the Sport and Armadillo and the Flat Protection level does as well.  The first thing I want to say that this is not a race tire by any means.  Yes you could race on it but it is heavy and does not roll as fast as a tire like a race tire should roll.  But the flat protection is outstanding and on my commuter bike that is the most important aspect of a tire to me.

So in the almost 1000 miles I have ridden so far I have not flatted and have hit some sketchy road conditions so I am very pleased with that.  As for riding in wet conditions I got a great test Tuesday on my ride into work and the tire performed outstandingly.

Overall I am extremely pleased with the tire and if you are in the market for a tire that provides great flat protection on your commuter or hybrid type bike I highly recommend this tire.  Maybe in 2 years when I need to switch out I will try the Armadillo or Sport but there is nothing wrong with the standard Infinity and the price is very competitive compared to some other "commuter" tires out there.

Stop by the shop and check out the tire for yourself or ask any questions about setting the bike up for commuting/touring.  Looks like the weather should clear up for the weekend so get out there and ride!
