Welcome back to the continuation of Travel Destination week and lucky for you I am traveling (that is why this is late again) and I am going to talk about some Mountain Bike Travel destinations with a nice little road hill climb added in as well. Today we are returning to DuPont State Forest in Ashville, NC area. I got the chance to return here and ride some new trails again today and it made me smile as much as it did yesterday!
As I said yesterday, the area is about 12 hours south of Buffalo via car but very easily accessible from Charlotte also. There are many lodging options in Hendersonville (about 30 minutes away by car) or other small cities surrounding the area. There are limited services once you get to the forest so make sure you pack your water and food in with you.
The trails are awesome. There is a mix of forest service roads and single track with great flow to it. There is a lot of climbing involved so bring the climbing legs but the downhills will make it all worthwhile!
So which bike would work best here? I brought my 29'er Hardtail and there is truly no need for 29" down here but it is what I have so no complaints there. Full suspension would be nice on some of the single track but for the most part I was very comfortable on the hardtail. Rigid is definitely a possibility but make sure you have you tires at the right pressure to help take some of the bumps away from your body.
All in all which every bike you have or are looking at from our inventory at Tom's would suffice from Specialized to Lynskey and from hard tail to full suspension. Just bring a camera for all the cool waterfall shots like above. Stop by the shop to check out our inventory or pick up the accessories necessary to make your trip worry free!
If you want to get some road riding in down here be prepared for climbing. This afternoon I headed up the road to Laurel Park and got a chance to see this view. 4 states are visible from up here and the ride down is as easy as the climb up is hard - but it is a great way to use your road muscles instead of frying the mountain ones all week long!
A great way to test the your new Mountain Bike out and to start off the Mountain Bike season is to race. Single Track Racing is hosting a 6 (Only 3 left after today's) race series at Sprague Brook on Tuesdays. Check out their Facebook Page for more information orRegister Here. This is in full swing and to help support Mountain Biking in Western New York come on out for the next 4 races (or 1 or 2 or 3 if that is all you can make). The group that runs these races are good folk and deserve our support!
Huge clothing sale taking place right now - stop by and check out our inventory!Included in this great sale is Mavic Mountain Bike Clothing.
