Triathlon/TT Tuesday - UPCOMING COMPUTRAINER SPINSCAN SESSION

In talking with Tom about what he would like to see in upcoming blog posts before they head out to Interbike next week he mentioned that he was going to be doing a riding efficiency workshop towards the end of October/beginning of November.  So we chatted about it some and I got really excited about having my pedal stroke analyzed.  And we will be offering this service coming soon so today we will discuss what the benefits of it would be if you decide to pursue it.

The above picture graph is one of power output during the pedal stroke.  As you can see there is quite a bit of variance and that is not a good thing.  You want a consistent amount of power from each leg all of the time throughout the pedal stroke as in this picture:

Obviously there is still some variance but the gaps are not as large as the graph above.  Another graph will show the comparison of the two leg strokes.  As you can see there is quite a bit of difference from right to left in the picture below (sort of looks like a peanut shell!)

Here is what CompuTrainer has to say:

SpinScanTM Pedal Stroke Analyzer is an exclusive feature of CompuTrainer and Velotron that helps you increase power and efficiency. The multi-color torque graph represents one full 360° revolution divided into 15° segments. The left/right leg percentage power splits give you the feedback needed to pedal in "circles". It will identify "flat" or "dead" spots in the pedal stroke where optimal power is not transferred to the drive train. A dynamic bike fit utilizing SpinScan is an excellent way to take the subjectivity and guesswork out of the bike fit process. And the ATA (Average Torque Angle) displayed on the Polar Graph helps you adjust your position for optimum power.

SpinScanTM can be viewed in a multitude of ways

Bar Graph or Polar Mode
Picture-in-Picture with 3D Software
Full screen in CompuTrainer Pro PC1 Software
Full screen in optional Coaching Software
If you are a serious racer and want to improve your performance this is a great tool to implement into your training program.  Keep an eye out for more information about the seminar and hopefully the staff will get a chance to run through it first so we can give you more information about it.

Time to start planning your winter training so stop by and sign up for our Fall or Winter Race Series.  Slots are filling up fast so don't delay!
