Why Do You Shop At A Real Store?

A friend posted an interesting article about Online & In Person Bike Shopping Statistics so I figured I would twist it a little and ask the readers of this blog (and our Faceboook page) why do you shop at a store instead of online?

Here are some of the details from the article:

Some details from the study:
  • The number of consumers who visited a bike shop, but purchased a bicycle from a discount/mass merchant increased by 117 percent (compared to the 2012 study).
  • At the same time the number of adults who visited a bike shop, and went on to purchase a bicycle from a bike shop fell by 20 percent.
  • And adults who visited a bike shop and went on to purchase from an online retailer such as Amazon also declined by 36 percent.
The person who posted the article originally made the comment that because shops don't stock the exact part you are looking for and have to order it anyways.  I can attest that at Tom's there are a lot of parts available and I know Tom takes pride in that fact.

As I said recently you don't ever see an Amazon.Com bike club.  You also won't find a capable repair shop or a place to rent a bike while traveling on the web.

What makes you desire personalized service over a discount for shopping online and dealing with a computer?  Let us know because we appreciate our great customers.  Stop by today from 10-8 to check out our inventory.

Want a great way to test out your bike?  Purchase the bike and sign up for a slot of our Indoor Training Series.

Litespeed Titanium Bikes

We were forwarded a very interesting article on Titanium from the Litespeed point of view - CLICK HERE FOR LINK

The above photo is the TT bike that Litespeed made for Lance Armstrong for the 1999 World Championships.  It was labeled for Trek since that was his sponsor but Litespeed built it specifically for Lance and they did many custom pro bikes before the rules changed and it was disallowed.

Titanium is still a viable frame material if you are interested in picking up a new bike.  To learn more about Titanium frames stop by the shop.  We are open from 10-8!

Summer Sale is starting June 18th - Get ready for some great bargains!

Specialized 60 Day Challenge is going on - sign up and earn a chance to win some cool prizes.

Don't forget to sign up for the National Bike Challenge.
Want to race that Mountain Bike.  Wednesday Night Single Track Racing at Sprague Brook Registration is open.  There are still 3 races remaining!  It was a great time with many new faces trying it out - so don't be afraid to try something new!

How To Customize Your Fat Bike - SPECIALIZED FATBOY EDITION

dIt seems like this week sure does have a Custom Ring to it.  First we started off with the S-Build, yesterday we added in Hand Built Single Speed Wheels, and today we are highlighting Tom Seiler's Customized Specialized Fat Boy Expert.

Thomson Seat Post, Carbon Handlebars and Stem, upgraded Shimano XT brakes help shed weight right out of the box

HED Carbon Wheels laced to Industry 9 Hubs with 45Nrth Husker Du's carry the bike around the road and trails.

1x10 Drivetrain provides enough gear options for all conditions and removes the Front Derailleur and Shifter and helps shed some unnecessary weight as well.

Final tally on the scale brings the bike in at 25.17 pounds.  This bike stock is over 30 pounds so he removed at minimum 5 pounds and I am thinking more likely close to 10 pounds.  Although weight savings won't be had you can change casing colors and the Shimano XT brakes have colored hydraulic brake lines available as well to add some bling to the bike.

MSRP of the Fatboy Expert is $2,700.00.  Prices for the upgrades are as follows:

HED Big Deal Carbon Wheels: $2,400.00
Race Face Carbon Handle Bar: $185.00
Ritchie WCS Stem: $100.00
Thomson Seatpost: $90.00
Shimano XT Rear Derailleur: $200.00
Shimano XT Shifter: $50.00
Shimano XT Brakes: $375.00 (Front & Rear)
Race Face Narrow/Wide Chainring: $45.00

For more information on how to reduce your bike weight stop by the shop today and let's talk.

Are you planning on being out and about doing some running around today?  Want to stop by the shop and start your shopping or start working on your list?  Bring you bike along with you and drop it off for a Tune-Up and you can earn some Tom Dollars to use at Tom's Pro Bike.  As the picture above shows - purchase a complete tune-up and receive $15 Tom Dollars or purchase a Deluxe and receive $25 Tom Dollars to use in the store.  Tune-up must be completed by Jan 15, 2015 and the Tom Dollars are good until March 15, 2015.

Do you have a bike lover on your Christmas List?  Check out Tom's Holiday Specials.  If you are unsure of what to but pick up a Gift Card and let them chose from our inventory or get an idea from the Great Gift Idea section based on your budget.

We have some excess 2014 and older inventory that we are trying to clear out to make way for the 2015 models that are becoming available each day.  For 2014 you receive 10% off the MSRP and also a 10% Gift Card to use in the store.  We have financing available if you quality and we also have free lay-a-way: 20% down is all that is required to secure your new ride for the 2015 season and beyond.

Our 2013 and older inventory is marked down even lower as well.  It may not be as low as it was during our Reverse Auction Sale but you can still save a lot if we have your size and model choice available.

Indoor Race Series information is out. Click on the link to register and purchase your race credits because it is going on right now!  Sure the weather was ideal for outdoor riding recently but you saw what happened last weekend.  Don't miss out on some great winter training opportunities!

For more information on any of the above items stop by and see us today - we are open today and tomorrow from 10-6!

Reverse Auction Sale

The auction board is up and the bid site is live!

Are you ready to take ownership of a Titanium Hardtail?  How about a Carbon Ui2 Road Bike?  In the market for a new Tri Bike?  How about a Cross Bike for the upcoming season?

How do you find out what bikes are available? Click on THIS LINK and it will take you to the Tom's Pro Bike Reverse Bicycle Auction page. Down at the bottom of that page is this:

Click on that link and it will take you to our inventory page. Once we start getting bids we will update the list bi-weekly so you know if the bike is spoken for at a specific price. If you try to put a bid in on a bike that has already been bid on it will reject your bid just in case we don't get the sheet updated with that specific bike bid.

Here is the example again:

Example:
- 2012 Specialized Roubaix Expert (Regular Price $3,900) - SALE PRICE $2,950

- August 29th: $2,655
- September 5th: Price drops to $2,507

- September 26th: Price drops to $2,065

- October 3rd: Price drops to $1,917

- October 10th: Price drops to $1,770

It may sound confusing but it really isn't. Look for your dream Lynskey Titanium Road Bike or a Specialized Carbon Cross Bike for the upcoming race season or even a Fuji Carbon Road Bike and see if we have your size. Come into the shop and take it for a test ride. You can bid it on right there for an upcoming week or pay that weeks Sale Price and bring it home with you. We are open from 10-8 to do test rides so stop by the shop and check out our inventory!

Custom Bike Builds

Photo: Looking to do a custom build? We have a lot of frames on sale to build up. Stop by for more information.

Have you ever dreamed of having your own custom bike built up specifically for you?  There are a lot of cool bikes being built right from the manufacturer but maybe there is just something missing from the bike that you want!

We talk a lot at the shop about different ideas - changing my Fatbike fork over to Carbon and then having custom wheels built because the new fork is Thru-Bolt and my current hubs are not compatible.

A customer is currently looking into a Single Speed Titanium build and we are working with them to get the price and weight in the ballpark he is trying to stay within.

Taking a Lynskey Titanium frame and putting the perfect set of wheels on it for me and then fitting it out with 11 Speed Dura-Ace and a red carbon bar and stem combo.

How about ordering a custom built Steel Waterford Touring bike and fitting it with the drive-train of your choice, wheels that will handle any conditions, stainless steel fenders, and racks and panniers that will carry everything including the kitchen sink.

How about a Limited Edition S-Works Tarmac or Venge and building your rocket of a race bike up specifically how you want your bike built.  Electronic shifting, hydraulic rim brakes and aero carbon wheels to keep you at the front of the peleton on race day!

These, and many more, are all options that you have at Tom's Pro Bike.  With the knowledge and experience of the staff we can find that perfect bike for you and your dreams.  Is it inexpensive?  No but having that one bike that no one else ever can replicate just might make it worth while.

For more information stop by the shop.  We have a lot of frames on sale and some wheelsets as well.  That dream build is a possibility.  Let us help you make it reality!

Check out our Events Page for upcoming rides and events at Tom's Pro Bike including this weekends Lake Ontario ride.

Pre-Blogger Bill Vacation Post

During the Summer Sale we had a beautiful Surly Cross Check Frameset for sale.  I posted it on a site that I frequent with Gravel Grinders and Bike Lovers from the Mid-West figuring since no one in Buffalo had jumped at this cool bike then we should offer it to the rest of the world.  I put the post out about 7:00pm on a Thursday and the bike was paid for and shipped out first thing Friday morning.

The story was his girlfriend had the black frame but really loved the Robin's Egg Blue and he wanted to surprise her with this one.  I asked him to send us a picture of the build when it was transformed and he did.

If you are looking to make that special build stop by the shop and let's talk.  We have framesets available or can order on in for you.  Think of it like this - if you were going to own just 1 bike what would you want that 1 bike to be for you?  Write it down and come talk to us at Tom's.  We want to make your vision a reality!

Keep an eye out on Facebook for posts but the blog is officially on vacation for 10 days.  See you on the Tan Side of The Moon!

A great way to test the your new Mountain Bike out is in the southern tier this week - Ellicottville Wednesday Night race series is happening.  A great week to get muddy and sweaty on the mountain bike!

Check out our Events Page - Service Clinic 7/23/2014 @ 6:30pm. You can call the shop to register or online.

If you are interested in learning about XTERRA Syracuse or XTERRA ASP and doing training in group settings stop by the shop for more information.
