First Impression Reviews - CERVELO C5

Light, agile, and fun to ride — not the words you’d normally associate with an endurance bike. But that’s exactly what came to mind while chasing town line sprints and climbing steep California hills aboard Cervelo’s new C5 endurance bike. The 850-gram frame (including small parts) is a versatile machine that provides a smooth ride without giving up Cervelo’s signature race feel. While Cervelo says it’s unlikely that we’ll see any pros racing the C5 this year (except maybe at Paris-Roubaix), the endurance bike is best-suited for mixed terrain including pavement, gravel, and dirt roads for everyday adventures.

Where To Ride Your Fat Bike

So we finally convinced you to purchase a Fat Bike and you are the reason that it hasn't snowed in this winter yet in Buffalo!  Well I found an article that gives you some travel locations to bring your Fat Bike to the snow while we wait for our winter to start (and honestly I am fine with this weather until April 1st and Spring Conditions!).  Singletracks has posted 20 trails that you probably never heard of and some are "close" to WNY:

We began by pulling trail status data for trails that had been reported as “Snow: Packed” (the ideal fat biking conditions) at least twice in 2015. Once we had that list, we ranked the trails based on the number of winter check-ins they received, to find out which trails are the most popular–and hopefully, the best to ride. Especially with fat biking, having well-packed/groomed trails is critical, so the more they get ridden and maintained, the better.

So without further ado, here are 20 popular fat bike trails that you may have never heard of!

Easy To Do Bicycle Care

I was browsing the Specialized web site trying to figure out what to blog about today and I came across a story of Back Country Fat Biking in British Columbia.  I love these types of stories and I decided that I could do a post about this but then a picture caught my eye and I figured that pointing a simple thing out might just make you Bicycle Care that much easier to take of.

Do you see anything wrong with the bikes in this picture?  Trust me looking at the mountains in the background took over 90% of the picture for me but someone is mis-treating their bike and if you are this deep into the woods it is not a smart thing to do.

If you have leaning spots it is always best to lean the bike against something (like the trees) but if you have to lay it on the ground do not lay it derailleur side down.  Damage might not occur but it is more likely to occur that way than if you lean it derailleur side up.  It is the simple things that can make your bike continue to ride & shift properly!

Tis The Season - COLD WEATHER BIKE RIDING SEASON

The wet roads play havoc with clothing choices and bike maintenance as well.  Most road bikes do not come with the ability to attach fenders (or as the Europeans like to call them Mud Guards) so you need to find a set of clip on fenders to work with your bike.  SKS has a great line of fenders and if staying dry is paramount this winter check them out!  Their Raceblade Pro Silver would work perfectly:

Winter Commuting - Don't Stop Riding Because It Is Cold Out!

I came across this cool article yesterday from QBP about Winter Commuting and posted it to Facebook but figured a good old fashioned blog post would be nice in case you missed it.  Here are a couple of key points I took away from it:

Apparel is the hardest thing to nail down - hands down the most difficult aspect of winter riding.  If it is cold out and you leave the house comfortable you are going to sweat out yourself and that is very dangerous!  Leave the house cold!

Visibility and safety are huge concerns when we have so few hours of light - you need lights to see and to be seen!

Commuting isn’t racing - I will do some intervals on the way home generally if I have the legs for it but my ride into the office is at a very casual pace.  This is where base mileage building comes into play!
