Friday's Fast & Furious Blog Post

We hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving and are ready to start training hard for next season.  And to help you get motivated we are going to start discussing some of the bikes that we have to offer you here at Tom's Pro Bike.  We will be showcasing road bikes, triathlon/TT bikes, mountain bikes, touring bikes, and commuter/fitness bikes.
There will be a schedule so that each type gets covered weekly, but it may not always be a bike that is highlighted.  We plan on discussing gear, components, and other miscellaneous topics that come up.  Some of the information we will be providing will come right from our manufacturers web site or we will be talking out of specific knowledge if we ride the bike or have other information on the item that is highlighted that day.

Today we are going to start with a road racing bike and that is why the title is Friday's Fast & Furious Blog.  These bikes are meant to go fast and we want to make sure the bike you purchase fits you properly so that you can go as fast as possible.  If you notice on Tom's biography it mentions that he has attended fitting classes such as Dan Empfield's Slowtwitch, the Serotta Elements Program, and the Specialized BG Fit School.

As many of you know, Tom's started stocking Specialized bikes in 2011 and today's highlighted bike is the Specialized Roubaix SL3 Expert:

Some highlights of the Roubaix SL3 Expert are:
  • FACT IS 10r carbon SL3 frame with uniquely shaped, tapered head tube is uber-light with incredible torsional stiffness, and Zertz seatstay inserts for the fastest most compliant endurance bike available
  • Ultralight FACT carbon monocoque fork with vibration-damping Zertz inserts is stiff, responsive, and durable
  • Race-ready DT Axis 3.0 wheels are fast and light but still durable enough for high mileage training
  • Adjustable four-position oversized alloy stem with 31.8mm bar clamp for strength and versatile positioning
  • Specialized Comp shallow drop alloy bar for serious performance and ergonomic position
  • Minimalist, high-performance BG Toupe Plus Comp saddle is ultralight with a flat profile and generous padding for long rides and explosive efforts
  • FACT carbon Comp seatpost helps absorb road vibrations but remains stiff and efficient

You might be asking what is FACT Carbon? FACT is an acronym that stands for Functional Advanced Composite Technology, but more importantly, it represents our holistic approach to working with composites. Like any project at Specialized, FACT starts with the needs of the rider, then we apply four critical disciplines to achieve the design targets that will best serve those rider needs: design & engineering, material selection, fabrication process, and testing. What’s the result of the FACT process? Bikes and equipment that promise real-world performance benefits for the target rider.
