Single Speed Mountain Bike Monday - LYNSKEY PRO 29 SL

If you look closely you will see no derailleurs hanging from this beauty.  You see a beautifully crafted Titanium Single Speed Hard Tail ready to rock and roll on any trail you throw at it!  You may ask why would anyone want to ride a Single Speed?  Well there is minimal maintenance required and at the end of the day it truly makes you a stronger biker in this guys opinion.  How so?  When you hit a hill on a geared bike people typically gear down to make the climb easier.  On a Single Speed you have 2 options: #1 - people your butt off and make it to the top or #2 - get off and walk.  Enough jibber jabber on Single Speed talk - trust me if you haven't done it give it a shot you will love it!

Back to the Lynskey Pro 29 SL:

2014 Pro 29 SL

The ongoing evolution of our flagship 29er brings a whole new meaning to the word PRO. The all new 2014 Pro 29 adds to its already impressive list of race attributes a PF 30 BB for unmatched power transfer, tapered 42/52 headtube for stability and strength up front, and 12x142 thru axle slider dropouts or choose our standard single speed sliders. Sliders not only provide adjustment for tire clearance and chain tension during the use of geared setups, but also play a pivotal role in the overall performance by allowing you to fine tune the wheelbase. The overall result when combined with a 2 inch Helix'd downtube; speed, stiffness and stability in a durable lifetime purchase.

The 2014 Pro 29 SL enhancements include tapered and integrated head tube using the 42/52 headset for tapered 1.5 to 1 1/8" steerers, PF30 bb now allowing either BB30 cranks or with the threaded adapter, standard Shimano, and thru axle rear dropouts at 12x142. One other subtle change will be "under top tube" full length housing cable routing. No more under BB routed cables. Hardtail 29ers simply don't come any faster than a Pro29.

For more information on this or any other mountain bike in inventory stop by the shop - we are open from 10-8 today.

Travel By Bike Thursday - TOUR DIVIDE RACE 2014 EDITION

Tomorrow is the Grand Depart of the 2014 Tour Divide Race.  This beast starts in Banff, Alberta and for those that finish they will arrive in Antelope Wells, NM.  In honor of those that will be traversing 2745 Miles of UNSUPPORTED mountain bike miles we are going to discuss some of the different options out there to carry gear on your bike.

The Great Divide Route is the world's longest off-pavement cycling route. It was tirelessly mapped over a 4 year span, and published in 1998 by Adventure Cycling Association, North America's premiere bicycle travel organization. The route is highlighted by long dirt roads and jeep trails that wend their way through forgotten passes of the Continental Divide. It travels through Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, and the United States of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico (map). By route's end a thru-rider will climb nearly 200,000 feet of vertical (equivalent to summiting Mount Everest from sea-level 7 times).

Above is a picture of a Hardtail bike loaded with some great gear bags.

Frame Bag - These are specifically made to fit YOUR bikes frame size and provides quick access to extra food stores/tools/clothing.

Gas Tank (Bento Bag on Steroids) - Camera and food storage.

Jerry Can - More access for smaller items that you need to be able to get at quickly.

Sweet Roll (Front Bag) - Carries your tent/bivy sleeping bag

Seat Bag - Excess clothing or food stores.  Cooking equipment, First Aid Kit, Water Filtration System

You don't need rack and panniers to tour.  A lot of times those set ups would fail on this type of route that is why they go with soft bags.

Plus you get to see scenery like this.  For more information on a bike capable of carrying you across this route or for the accessories for your current bike stop by Tom's and let's talk!

Bike Industry News Wednesday

Specialized Diverge gravel bike launching soon

Well this bike speaks very loudly to me and I cannot wait for July 15th and the release of the Specialized Diverge.  Details are very limited right now but if you are looking for a "gravel grinder" and multi-purpose bike well this just might be the ticket for you!  Keep tuned in and we will provide more information when it is available.

The new rear derailleur increases chain wrap and improves shifting to larger cogs.

Campagnola is releasing updated mechanical groups and it seems to be focused on improved shifting response.

Today is like the Mother of All Days to make Blogger Bill smile.  First a gravel grinder and now fat bike carrying abilities.  Saris is adding "Fat-Tire" trays for it's Freedom Racks.  If you have the Freedom and a Fat Bike stop by and we can order them in for you!

To wrap up the day here is the S-Works Almira SL4 of pro rider Evelyn Stevens.  More pictures available here!
