Bike Industry News Wednesday

Specialized Diverge gravel bike launching soon

Well this bike speaks very loudly to me and I cannot wait for July 15th and the release of the Specialized Diverge.  Details are very limited right now but if you are looking for a "gravel grinder" and multi-purpose bike well this just might be the ticket for you!  Keep tuned in and we will provide more information when it is available.

The new rear derailleur increases chain wrap and improves shifting to larger cogs.

Campagnola is releasing updated mechanical groups and it seems to be focused on improved shifting response.

Today is like the Mother of All Days to make Blogger Bill smile.  First a gravel grinder and now fat bike carrying abilities.  Saris is adding "Fat-Tire" trays for it's Freedom Racks.  If you have the Freedom and a Fat Bike stop by and we can order them in for you!

To wrap up the day here is the S-Works Almira SL4 of pro rider Evelyn Stevens.  More pictures available here!

A great way to test the your new Mountain Bike out and to start off the Mountain Bike season is to race. Single Track Racing is hosting a 6 (Only 2 left) race series at Sprague Brook on Tuesdays. Check out their Facebook Page for more information orRegister Here. This is in full swing and to help support Mountain Biking in Western New York come on out for the next 4 races (or 1 or 2 or 3 if that is all you can make). The group that runs these races are good folk and deserve our support!

Check out our Events Page to find out what is going on around the shop and don't forget time is running out to get your bike serviced for The Ride for Roswell June 28th!

Huge clothing sale taking place right now - stop by and check out our inventory! Included in this great sale is Mavic Mountain Bike Clothing and road and mountain bike shoes as well.

Travel WITH Bike Thursday - BIKE RACKS

Freedom 4-Bike - Welcome to the family

Tom's Pro Bike carries Saris Racks:

Tom's Pro Bike is now STOCKING Thule Racks as well.

The weather is changing and that means bike rides.  Some people transport their bikes to meeting points and that is where a bike rack is very handy.  There is no taking off the front wheel, moving car seats around, lowering seats, or many other situations that come up.

Want an easy way to transport you, your bike, and some other bikes as well?  Come check out our bike rack inventory.  We have a huge display wall set up with all the different rack options that we stock and can order for you.  Hopefully I remember to take a picture of it this weekend and post it on Facebook but for now you are going to have to trust me that it exists!

So if you are in the market for a new bike and need to figure out how to get it home or you need a new rack stop by the shop and we will have a solution for you.

To start off the season Single Track Racing is hosting a 6 race series at Sprague Brook starting May 20, 2014. Check out their Facebook Pagefor more information or Register Here.

Travel By Bike - BACK TO WORK COMMUTING

We hope everyone who stopped by the WNYMBA Mountain Bike Social had a great time last night.  Tom's appreciates you coming out and if you have any questions about our Mountain Bike inventory and accessories stop by the shop or give us a call!

We have all suffered through a pretty long winter in the Buffalo region this season.  Before Tuesday this week, the last time I rode my bike to work was Christmas week.  Almost 4 months between commutes and I generally top 100 commutes annually, with many from January through March before the weather breaks and I shoot for 4 a week.

Well the weather finally broke some and I got back on the bike and you want to know the most immediate difference I felt - was that I felt happier walking into work than I ever do driving.  The temperatures were in the low 20's that morning so it was not a "comfortable" commute but as I tell people I have enough clothing to keep me warm - I just want the roads to be dry and safe before I start riding.

At Tom's Pro Bike we have a variety of bikes that will work as "Commuter" Bikes from the Specialized Sirrus/Vita (those are all 3 separate links as an FYI so you can chose your link of choice) which are solid hybrids that would provide many years of comfortable and reliable commuting to you all the way to a top of the line road bike.  You can commute on any bike that you chose to but some bikes make it "easier" than others.

We don't generally stock Single Speed bikes but for reliability they are the way to go.  Limited moving parts make for less liability on the road and when I commute my goal is to make it to work as quickly and easily as possible without mechanical issues.  We can order Surly or All-City and our major lines generally have a Single Speed option to chose from as well.

Stop by Tom's for more information.  We are open until 8:00pm tonight.

Bike Industry News Wednesday

If you have read this weeks blog post you will know tonight is the WNYMBA Mountain Bike Social at Tom's Pro Bike.  This is just your friendly reminder before we get into Bike Industry News from the past week.

Specialized Tarmac Elite SL4

First up is a review of the Specialized Tarmac Elite SL4 from bikeradar.com.  We love the Tarmac at Tom's and if you ever took the time to come and test ride we bet you would love it also!

Mounted to several custom 29ers at this year’s North American Handmade Bicycle Show was a new rigid mountain bike fork from carbon component manufacturer ENVE Composites

At Tom's we love Enve products and some new stuff is popping up from them.  Bikeradar spotted a carbon road fork and mountain bike fork and discusses it here.  If you are looking for ways to lower overall bike weight then a carbon fork is a good way to make big gains if you don't have one already.

Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) with the winner's trophy in Tirreno-Adriatico

Cycling News has a bunch of articles on the spring classics that are in full force right now.  I have been DVR'ing them and watching them at night and am really excited for Paris-Roubaix!  Alberto was back on the top of the podium recently courtesy of Specialized (and his engine as well).

Saris Fatbike bike rack (3)

For our Fat Bike friends, Saris is introducing a 5" Fat Bike Tray to carry these beauties around to the trail heads.  The snow may be melting but these bikes are fun year round - I have ridden mine at Sprague Brook and in Cazenovia Creek during the summer time so don't think this is not the time to purchase one.  We still have a Surly Pugsley at the shop!

A great way to start off the mountain bike season and train for the XTERRA races is by signing up for Single Track Racing's 6 race series at Sprague Brook starting May 20, 2014. Check out their Facebook Page for more information or Register Here.

Travel By Bike Thursday - MY BIKE COMMUTE IS BETTER THAN YOURS?

Flagstaff Bike Commute Rainbow

So I was scanning through information and came across the title of this blog - My Bike Commute is Better Than Yours and it got me thinking about what I love about my bike commute and what I dislike about it as well!

A lot of my commute is done by Lake Erie and many days it is quite enjoyable and a beautiful view as well.

Some days are cloudy and windy and rainy.

But at the end of the day I rarely get home and proclaim well that is one ride I wish I never did!

How is your bike commute?

This coming Sunday we are riding at Tillman Wildlife Area at 2:00pm. We have a Medium and Large Pugsley in stock right now with a price of $1900.00. If you are interested in learning more stop by the shop and check out this great bike that provides riding enjoyment year round!

You can still sign up for the WINTER INDOOR RACE SERIES STARTS 1/13/2014. Click link for more information and to sign up!
