The Giro d'Italia ended this past Sunday and as I was browsing stories and pictures they showed a picture of the winner Alberto Contador with a S-Works Turbo and Pink Detailing for his Giro Championship.  I was looking for a blog post and figured if they show a picture of Alberto with the Turbo then I should do a blog post as well so today we are highlighting the Specialized Turbo S:

Fuji Endurance Bike The Gran Fondo 2.0 Di2 UL by Fuji is a 2012 endurance bike with Shimano components. Endurance bikes are designed to be the comfortable cousin of traditional road bikes. The bike will still be light, efficient, and powerful, but with a little more emphasis on comfort. These bikes have a slightly relaxed geometry and frames designed to be smooth and light, instead of just light. For example, compared to traditional road bikes, the handlebars on endurance bikes are closer to the level of the seat height instead of below, allowing for a more upright position, and the wheelbase is a bit longer to create a more stable ride. We have discussed the Specialized Turbo here before but for 2015 they have come out with a new model at a reduced cost as well.  So if you were very interested in the Original Turbo (which they still make and is the Specialized Turbo S) but maybe were a little sticker shy check out the Specialized Turbo:

The MSRP is $3,800 in comparison to $5,900 for the Turbo S.  The biggest differences are drivetrain components and the front wheel on the Turbo is a standard quick-release compared to a Thru-Axle with the Turbo S.  Will those differences change the ride quality?  Well when we get our Turbo in you can test ride them both and decide for yourself.  I know that $3,800 makes it much more inviting to me as a commuter rig!

Fast & Furious Friday - SPECIALIZED TURBO

So you are in the market for an electric bike that will make all of your car dependency disappear?  Well Tom's has the Specialized Turbo (sorry no links today the Specialized site is down for upgrades) available to you.  This bike is a do all bike and has the ability to be rendered and racked and comes with lights included already.

It is pedal assist SRAM drivetrain equipped.  You set the power level, start pedaling, and away you go!

It is not light by any means but it is fast!  If you are looking to get somewhere in a rush this bike will do 28mph and still give you a light workout.

Travel By Bike Thursday - SHIMANO STEPS E-BIKE GROUPSET

Have you been contemplating an electric bike?  The technology is going to keep pouring in and Shimano is working it's way into the market place with their new group.  It will be tested in Germany next year and then made available to manufacturers after testing is done:

Shimano say the 3.1kg groupset will have an integrated drive unit, battery, front gear mechanism, cycle computer and chain and will be able to propel bikes up to 25km/h before cutting out. The battery is expected to have a maximum range of 120km in eco mode.

If you are looking for an Electric Bike now - we are stocking the Specialized Turbo and we have received great comments from everyone that test rode one!  They were first tested in Europe and once Specialized dialed down the maximum speed attainable they became available in America.  Fenders and Racks are available to make this a premium commuting mobile for you!

SRAM PROTOTYPE ELECTRIC DRIVETRAIN

We have Shimano and Campagnolo Electric Drivetrain and now it looks like SRAM is in the final stages of releasing theirs.  This cross bike was spotted at the Illinois State Championships this past weekend and you can see the SRAM crank and a smaller wire at the rear derailleur that is typical to electric drivetrains.

Here is the write up on it:

SRAM’s long-rumored development of an electronic drivetrain went public Sunday when a rider in SRAM-branded kit raced on what is clearly a prototype shift-by-wire system at the Illinois cyclocross state championships.
SRAM is remaining tight-lipped about the groupset. “That’s a developmental product. I have no comment,” SRAM marketing manager Michael Zellmann told VeloNews.
With the public, if accidental, unveiling of an electronic group, SRAM joins competitors Shimano and Campagnolo in the steady move away from mechanical shifting.
Little is known about the group, aside from what can be seen in this photo. What is obvious is that an electric wire, not a cable, is actuating the rear derailleur. There is also something mounted to the rider’s stem, which we assume is some sort of battery.
The derailleur is has a short cage, indicating that the initial group will be targeted at the road and cyclocross markets. The shifters are matched with cable-actuated brakes, not the company’s hydraulic braking system.
The finish is rough, and the components are quite obviously in the prototype phase. We hope to learn more soon.

While Martyn Ashton's brilliant Road Bike Party 2 video is currently going viral, BikeRadar decided to take a closer look at the bike used in the video, it's Colnago's C59 Disc.

Martyn's Colnago C59 Disc is the world's first production disc-braked carbon fibre road racing bike, one of the fastest machines out there with a near identical frame to the one raced by France’s Thomas Voeckler in the Tour de France.
So, give this bike to a seriously fast rider and you'll get results, but give this bike to Martyn Ashton, Danny Macaskill or Chris Akrigg and you'll get results of an altogether different kind.
The bike has inherited a few subtle modifications and as a result would cost in the region of £15,000 / $24,500 to reproduce.
Despite the absolute brutality that this bike was subjected to, the only failures are said to have been punctures along with one brake line that was pulled out as a result of a crash.

Martyn took a standard set of Shimano XT flat pedals and modified them to minimise their profile to look more in keeping with a road bike
