Tuesday TT/Triathlon Post - SHOES

Today we are going to highlight some of Specialized Triathlon Shoes.  Shoes, to me, are probably one of the last items I would focus on for time savings when it comes to Triathlons, but I don't always have the proper point of view and would never consider myself really a big threat to Podium so I can skimp in this area.  That might not be you though so we are going to discuss the different types of shoes out on the market that you can use for Triathlons.

First off is the old stand by (and quickest way to get out of T2) - Cages/Straps and your running shoes.  How can this be the fastest way out of T2 - well you don't have to change shoes and can just rack your bike/helmet, grab your number belt if necessary, and hit the road.  You will lose some speed on the bike without cleats and clip-in pedals but for a beginner or Sprints I would highly recommend this avenue.

Next you can get an entry level shoe and today we will show you the Specialized Trivent Sport.

Packed with all the fit and functionality of our Trivent Expert, combined with an affordable injection composite sole for value-minded or new triathletes. The Trivent Sport delivers on both performance and accessibility.
  • New injection-molded vented sole is engineered to be stiffer and lighter: 6.0 stiffness index
  • Performance-enhancing Body Geometry features in the outsole and footbed
  • Large heel pull for easy entry and faster shoe changes in transitions
  • Arch mounted Launch Clip for flying starts
  • Tri-specific 2-strap closure with open tongue for ventilation
  • Open-air mesh for maximum ventilation
  • Fits 3-bolt cleat systems
  • Approximate weight: 295g (1/2 pair #42)
MSRP: $100.00

Next is the Specialized Trivent Expert:

Our pro triathletes demanded ultimate ventilation and faster transitions, so we developed the Trivent Expert with performance-enhancing, tri-specifi c features, temperature-regulating construction, and Body Geometry ergonomics.
  • FACT carbon/glass fiber reinforced outsole is directionally rigid for outstanding power transfer: 8.5 stiffness index
  • Performance-enhancing Body Geometry contours in the outsole
  • Ergonomic, Body Geometry footbed is fully perforated for ventilation and drainage
  • Thermobonded construction for a smooth internal lining for "sockless" riding fit and comfort
  • Chromed fibers of our FACT carbon outsole act as a heat shield, deflecting road heat even in the hottest riding conditions
  • Large heel pull for easy entry and faster shoe changes in transitions
  • Arch mounted Launch Clip for flying starts
  • Replaceable heel tread with internally recessed bolts
  • Supple Micromatrix upper with open-air mesh for maximum ventilation
  • 3-bolt cleat pattern fits Shimano SPD-SL, Look, Time, and Speedplay
  • Approximate weight: 267g (1/2 pair #42)
MSRP: $175.00

Now for a large jump up to the Specialized Trivent Terra:

Developed by the Caveman himself, the Trivent Terra is exactly the right shoe for Xterra athletes. Lightweight, total comfort, and Body Geometry Technology. If it’s right for Conrad Stoltz, it’s right for you.
  • Light and stiff FACT carbon midsole runs the full length of the shoe, with thermoplastic replaceable tread for confident traction: 11.0 stiffness index
  • Full Body Geometry features in outsole and Body Geometry+ High Performance Footbeds combine to reduce hot spots and improve knee/foot alignment
  • Engineered Micromatrix upper is light, durable and supple fitting, with welded reinforcement for off-road durability
  • Smooth internal lining for "sockless" riding fit and comfort
  • Open tongue design for breathability and drying with closed toe to keep rocks and dirt out
  • Large heel pull for easy entry and faster shoe changes in transitions
  • Arch mounted Launch Clip for flying starts
  • Approximate weight: 330g (1/2 pair #42)
MSRP: $300.00
