Carbon Clearance Sale - 2014/2015 SPECIALIZED ROUBAIX SL4 COMP FINAL THOUGHTS

The demo week ended for the 2014 Specialized Roubaix SL4 Comp that I was riding and I have some final thoughts.  First up is the Specialized website information:
  • FACT 8r carbon frame with Endurance Road Geometry, Zertz and tapered headtube; paired with a full carbon monocoque fork for the perfect blend of stiffness, compliance and light weight
  • Espoir Elite 25c tires with BlackBelt puncture protection allow for a smooth, fast, and confident ride
  • Specialized Roubaix Tape w/ 2.5 gel pads makes for an incredibly comfortable front-end, on any terrain, for any length of ride
  • New Shimano Ultegra 11-speed mechanical drivetrain delivers light-action, precision shifting in a lightweight system, creating one of the finer parts kits available
  • Romin Comp Gel saddle, with hollow Cr-Mo rails, delivers the same ergonomically designed, scientifically-proven Body Geometry features that allow riders to deliver power in high-performance positions
Here is a VIDEO from Specialized as well on the Roubaix!

First off I just want to let you know that the wheelset I was riding were not the stock wheels.  Tom thought it was best to keep the same set of wheels on each bike so that I was not thrown off by a higher quality wheel while riding a different frame.  Wheels are one of the biggest factors to a bikes performance and by having higher quality or lower quality wheels it can really throw the ride level off.

The Specialized Roubaix was very comfortable, fast and efficient.  I did not get to log as many miles on it as I was hoping to, but since I ride the Specialized Diverge I am very familiar with most features.  Compared to the Colnago that I rode the week before, the Roubaix was a softer ride and I could tell the difference with the Zertz Inserts and so could my body at the end of the ride!  There is an $1,800 price difference between the Roubaix (less expensive) and the Colnago and I could see the difference but is it an $1,800 difference?  If I was choosing between the 2, and had the financial ability to afford either one, I would have a difficult time making a final decision.  If budget was a concern, I would be all over the Specialized Roubaix.

Original MSRP: $2,950 (or $3,000 for the 2015 model) ON SALE FOR $2,350!

2016 Model Release - CERVELO R3 DISC

Only this model of the C3 disc will be available

I got to the shop yesterday and the S-Works Fatboy was not fully built so I had to do some research instead of taking my dream bike out for a spin around the neighborhood.  In doing so, I came across the 2016 Cervelo Dealer Catalog on the counter so I started browsing through there.

My favorite find was the brand new C Series, and especially the C3 Disc, but I cannot find it on the internet anywhere so I am going to go with option #2 - The Cervelo R3 Disc and that is not even on the Cervelo Website yet so I will provide some Internet References to wet your appetite:

This will come with Shimano mechanical Ultegra with hydraulic discs. The chainset is the custom FSA SL-K model mentioned above, with a 50/34t chainring setup combined with an 11-25 rear cassette. The wheels are HED Ardennes, which come tubeless ready, although standard Continental Grand Sport 25mm clinchers with inner tubes are attached to the production model.

There is not a lot of information out yet but keep an eye out for a future blog and hopefully some shop photos.  Speaking of which, the S-Works Fatboy will be tested tomorrow around the shop and look for some photos!  We are open from 10-6 today and tomorrow so come on in and see us!  Fall is a great time of the year, and especially on a new bike!

2016 New Model - S-WORKS FATBOY

Rode One - Loved It!  Super Light, Super Fast, Super Agile and Super Cool!!!  If you like toys and are in the market for a Fat Bike then I would definitely check out the Specialized S-Works Fatboy:

What started as "serious fun" has quickly become a serious change to what we want out of bike. The fat revolution is here, and with races becoming more and more prevalent, we knew that our much-heralded Fatboy could stand to go on a diet. Introducing the new S-Works Fatboy Carbon. It features an immaculate, FACT carbon fiber construction with internal cable routing to ensure that it's light, stiff, and ready for nasty elements. We then spec'd it with SRAM's venerable one-by groupset, XX1, for dependable shifting, and then kept the carbon train rolling with lightweight carbon wheels from HED. Altogether, it's a revolution within the revolution, sparing no expense in delivering the ultimate in fat performance.
  • An immaculate, FACT carbon fiber construction ensures that the frame is lightweight and plenty stiff in all the right places. Internal cable routing is also incorporated; ensuring that slush, sand, snow, or dirt will have no bearing on performance out on the trail.
  • A FACT carbon fiber fork provides tons of compliance and absorbs chatter, while simultaneously keeping the overall weight of the bike down.
  • HED Big Deal carbon wheels are light, fast, and 85mm-wide to make sure that you get all the traction and floatation that fat bikes are known for, only without a weight penalty or having to make any sacrifices to climbing prowess.
  • 26x.4.0" Fast Trak Control tires make short work out of any trail condition. They accelerate fast, while providing a game-changing level of traction, control, and floatation for better handling out in the wild.
  • SRAM's XX1 crankset leads the way in the drivetrain department, providing a simplified, efficient, and almost impossible to drop your chain kind of ride quality.
Seriously this bike rocks.  Yes the MSRP is up there compared to other Fatbikes but not compared to other Fatbikes at this level!  MSRP is $7,500.00.  We have a couple to look at that are already spoken for but you can drool over them!  We are open from 10-8 today!

Carbon Clearance Sale - 2014/2015 Specialized Roubaix SL4 Comp Review

Tom's Carbon Clearance Sale is continuing and I am Test Riding another bike on the list this week - the 2014 Specialized Roubaix SL4 Comp:
HERE IS AN INFORMATION VIDEO FROM SBCU

I have not put in as many miles as I would have liked to yet on the Roubaix but here are some first ride impressions:

* Much more forgiving on the body than the Colnago CX Zero.  I can really feel the Zertz Inserts and Specialized Engineering at work on the rougher country roads
* Accelerates very nicely while still provided some road bump absorption as mentioned above
* Climbs very nicely as well.  I did a Hill Interval workout on it last night and it was responsive and handled nicely

I hope to get some bigger miles on it towards the end of the week before returning it on Saturday so keep an eye out for more feedback in the coming week.

MSRP: $3,000 (or $2,950 for the 2014) and on Sale for $2,350 with very good size availability.  I know we have sold a few since the sale started so call for exact inventory or head down for a test ride!  We are open from 10-8 today!

Colnago CX Zero Final Thoughts

Well the Colnago CX Zero was returned this afternoon after one final ride on her this morning with Jim & Al from the shop.  We met up in East Aurora and headed out east towards Holland/Wales and did some climbing.

The Cx Zero EVO is the bike for endurance.  A professional level racing frame, proven in the Spring Classics in Europe, the CX Zero Evo strikes a perfect balance between performance and comfort. The most versatile Colnago model, the CX Zero Evo has been developed to meet the demands of cycling in the greatest range of conditions.  “Classic” geometry for fit combines a taller head tube and slightly shorter top tube. This allows a more relaxed position of the shoulders and arms and a more open angle between the torso and thigh for more efficient pedaling during even the longest days in the saddle. The tube shapes of the rear triangle are designed to offer maximum vertical compliance while allowing clearance for up to 25mm tires. The seatpost is a smaller 27.2mm diameter.  All of these features promise more rider comfort and less fatigue. Your last mile will be as enjoyable as your first on the CX Zero Evo, on the most epic rides and on the most challenging roads

This bike climbed superbly and accelerated even better than it climbed.  It is a great bike in my opinion and if you are looking for a higher end carbon frame that will provide many miles of great comfort for many years to come then I would look no further than this bike.

MSRP was $4,600 and it is on sale for $4,100.00.  There are only 2 sizes available, a 50 & a 54, so I would hurry in and check this beauty out.

Up next will be a demo of the Specialized Roubaix SL4 Comp.  I am going to give you the differences that I felt during my rides and also hope to provide you some great information on the benefits of the Endurance Style Frames.

We are open Friday & Saturday from 10-6 so come on in with any questions, your shoes & pedals and go on a test ride!
